Grain is a landscape architecture and urban planning practice. Through meaningful, dynamic collaborations with clients, partners, and stakeholders, we design projects that empower communities.

Open space is scarce in the Wakefield neighborhood of The Bronx, a majority-minority community. We wanted this playground to be a stepping stone – both literally and imaginatively – towards an expanded concept of play and academic exploration.

Grain was tapped to repair one campus playground damaged in Superstorm Sandy, and create a second where a trash storage site currently stood.
Grain’s extensive work in the field of libraries has ranged from the general – developing big-picture visions for institutions, soliciting actionable feedback from the community – to the specific, for instance, assisting individual branches to engage distinct subsets of their users.
